Terms & Policies

Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and Disclaimer for Groove Design Studio.

Terms of Use

Article 1 (Scope)

These Terms of Use set out the conditions for using Groove Design Studio (the "Service"). By using the Service, you are deemed to have agreed to these Terms.

Article 2 (Service Description)

The Service is a free tool for generating, comparing, rating, and evolving grooves — drums, bass, riffs, and arrangements — directly in your browser. All processing happens in your own browser; the operator runs no server that computes or stores anything on your behalf. The Service is in development (beta), and features may be added, changed, or discontinued without notice.

Article 3 (Accounts and Stored Data)

The Service has no user registration and no login. Projects, style libraries, radio settings, favorites, journey albums, and similar data are all stored only within the browser on your own device. Nothing is stored on the operator's servers, and the operator cannot see any of it. This means your saved work will be lost if you clear your browser data, open the Service on a different device or browser, or close a private window. Please export work you care about as MIDI or as a JSON album backup and keep your own copy.

Article 4 (Imported Files and the Grooves You Create)

MIDI files are parsed and exported entirely within your browser; the files themselves are never sent to the operator's servers. The rights to, and use of, any groove you create with the Service — and any MIDI or JSON you export — belong to you. The operator claims no rights over them, and you may use them freely for commercial or non-commercial purposes, including releasing, selling, and distributing them as music. However, please do not import files or material that infringe the rights of third parties. If a dispute arises with a third party regarding a file you imported, you are responsible for resolving it.

Article 5 (Use of External AI Services)

The Service does not call any AI API. The "new adventure" feature works by building a prompt that you copy yourself, paste into an external AI service of your choosing (such as ChatGPT), and then paste the returned JSON back into the Service. Accordingly, the terms, pricing, and content rights of that external AI service are a matter between you and that provider. JSON you paste back is validated for format and then stored only within your browser.

Article 6 (Rights in the Service)

All rights in the Service — its program code, design, interface, generation algorithms, text, and every other element — belong to the operator (third-party software and material remain the property of their respective rights holders). The Service is provided for you to use in order to create grooves; no transfer of rights in the Service itself is granted. As stated in Article 4, grooves you create with the Service may be used commercially without restriction, but that concerns the work you produce. Copying the Service itself, repurposing it, or offering it as a product is a separate matter, and is prohibited under the following article.

Article 7 (Prohibited Conduct)

The following are prohibited: ・Conduct that violates laws or public order and morals ・Conduct that infringes the rights of third parties ・Reproducing, modifying, or repurposing all or part of the Service without the operator's permission in order to offer an identical or similar service ・Reselling or redistributing the Service without permission, or providing the right to use the Service to any third party, whether for a fee or free of charge ・Offering the Service itself as a product, or as part of your own product or service, without the operator's permission ・Reverse engineering, decompiling, or disassembling the Service ・Excessive automated access or anything else that interferes with the operation of the Service ・Any other conduct the operator deems inappropriate

Article 8 (Changes to These Terms)

These Terms may be changed without notice as needed. Any changes take effect once posted on this page.

Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

The Service is built on the principle of not collecting personal information it does not need. It has no registration system, and it includes no analytics tools, advertising, or tracking of any kind.

2. Information We Collect

The Service collects no information about you. There is no account system and no server that receives your data, so we never obtain or store personal information such as your name, email address, or IP address. The Service also uses no analytics tools, no advertising, and no behavioral tracking of any kind.

3. What Is Stored in Your Browser

The Service uses your browser's IndexedDB to save your work and settings: your projects, style libraries, Radio and Groove Journey settings, the record of grooves you have heard and the ones you marked as favorites, your journey album, adventures you created yourself, and anything else you make or choose within the Service. Beyond that, a single cookie is used — your display language preference (Japanese / English). No cookies are used for advertising or behavioral tracking. None of this ever leaves your browser.

4. Third-Party Services

The Service communicates externally in only these ways: ・Google Fonts: your browser connects to Google's servers to fetch the fonts used for display ・Vercel: hosting for the Service ・Cloudinary: delivery of instrument samples (only when natural instrument sounds are played in Radio or Groove Journey) Data handling by these providers follows their own respective privacy policies. Nothing you enter or create is transmitted anywhere else.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Because your work is stored only in your browser, deleting it is entirely in your hands. ・The delete button on the Studio project bar removes an individual project. ・Clearing site data in your browser settings removes everything the Service has saved. The operator retains no copy of your grooves or your files, so there is no need to request deletion.

Disclaimer

・The drums, bass, riffs, and arrangements the Service generates are algorithmic suggestions. We do not guarantee their originality, accuracy, or non-resemblance to existing copyrighted works. Generated content may coincidentally resemble an existing work; checking for this before you publish, release, or commercialize anything is your responsibility as the user.

・The operator accepts no liability for loss of data stored in your browser. Data is lost through browser changes, storage limits, or clearing site data. Always export grooves that matter to you as MIDI, and your Sound Island records as a JSON album backup, and keep your own copy.

・Audio playback depends on the performance of your browser and device, and on their support for Web Audio. Operation in every environment is not guaranteed.

・The typefaces used for display are fetched from Google Fonts. Outages, specification changes, or discontinuation of that service may change the typefaces you see.

・The Service is in development (beta). We do not guarantee that it will run continuously or without defects, and its specifications may change, or it may be discontinued, without notice.

・To the extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any damages arising from use of the Service.

About the Sound

Drums, bass, riffs, and backing are mostly synthesized inside your browser by Tone.js. In Radio and Groove Journey, melody (riff) timbres use short natural instrument samples (piano, Rhodes, jazz guitar, vibraphone, marimba, kalimba, celesta, harp), loaded from Cloudinary only when first needed. Which note plays and when is always decided by code. No instrument is ever streamed from an external server. ・Instrument samples: excerpted from the FluidR3_GM SoundFont by Frank Wen (Creative Commons Attribution 3.0), as rendered by gleitz/midi-js-soundfonts, with levels and lengths adjusted ・Vinyl noise used for texture

About AI

The Service does not call any AI API. Groove generation is entirely algorithmic. The "new adventure" feature only assembles a prompt for you to paste into an external AI yourself; the Service never sends anything to an AI (Article 5).

Software Used

The Service is built with the following open-source software: ・Next.js / React / Tone.js / Phaser / next-intl / Zustand / @tonejs/midi (MIT License) ・idb-keyval (Apache License 2.0) Each is used under the license text included in its own distribution.

Fonts

Display text uses Space Grotesk, JetBrains Mono, Oswald, Zen Old Mincho, Share Tech Mono, and Noto Color Emoji, delivered via Google Fonts. Use is subject to each font's own license (such as the SIL Open Font License).
